EUSAAP Conference 2019 (Shanghai)
The European Union Studies Association Asia Pacific (EUSAAP) invited papers for the annual conference and postgraduate student workshop entitled:
New Leadership, New Priorities – The EU in 2019
Saturday & Sunday, 6 & 7 July 2019, Shanghai
2019 was a watershed year for EU institution building. First, the year marked the 40thanniversary of direct elections to the European Parliament and the conference called for papers that offered a comparative longitudinal perspective focused on themes such as MEP recruitment, electoral systems evolution, treaty changes and policy impact. Second, the 2019 election were the first to be held after BREXIT and the consequences for the Parliament’s Group composition warranted analysis. Third, the selection of the new Commission as well as the Commission and Council Presidents and the High Representative also occurred in 2019. The conference examined this institutional renewal as well as reflected on the performance of these actors in the 2015-2019 period.

Accommodation
We will cover up to three nights accommodation for conference and workshop presenters not living within reasonable commuting distance. Rooms will be booked for arrival on Friday, 05 July and departure on Monday, 08 July 2019. Please note that only these nights can be covered. It will not be possible for the organisers to pay for any other nights.
We are using two different hotels again this year, however, most conference presenters are booked into the A’tour Hotel, Shanghai Hongkou Dabaishu. More information and how to get there can be found in the conference and logistical information file HERE.
For papers that are co-authored and/or several authors be attending the conference, only one set of costs will be covered. For example, off the paper presentation is shared between two authors, we will only be able to cover the costs of one person.
Unless arranged otherwise in writing with the conference organisers, a single room is booked for conference presenters. The single rooms cannot be used by two people. Postgraduate workshop participants will be allocated twin rooms (same sex only). Any additional guests staying at the hotel must be registered and pay the costs at check in. If any additional nights have been booked at your cost (and confirmed in writing by the conference organisers), these must be paid for at check in.

The events investigated these questions from both, an European and Asia Pacific perspective, as well as a multidisciplinary one. To build capacity and sustainability in EU Studies in the region as well as the development of knowledge within national governments, business and media organisations on the EU in the region, graduate students were especially invited to participate. Early career researchers especially benefitted from networking with more experienced participants, developed important research and presentation skills and brought a new, exciting and different perspectives to the conference.
